France + Associates France + Associates
End of Year Review 2020.

2020 has been an incredibly difficult year, with lockdown having a significant impact to businesses across the construction industry.

We, like many others have had to adapt the way we work to allow us to still meet all service requirements and we are delighted that we can start on site on many of our projects in the New Year.

Here, we look back on some of our highlights from 2020.

New Team Members

We started of the year by welcoming two new team members to France + Associates, Dannii who is currently studying Architectural Technology at Huddersfield University and Emma, who joined us as a Part 2 Architectural Assistant.

Our team have been particularly busy during 2020, with various qualifications and appointments!

+ Amy Hines MCIAT qualified as a Chartered Architectural Technologist with the CIAT (Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists).

+ Emma Ibbotson is working towards her final exam to be a Chartered Architect with RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects).

+ Karen McGourty is doing her final submission to be a Chartered Architectural Technologist with the CIAT.

+ Victoria Johnson qualified as a Legal Secretary.

+ Dannii Humphries is studying at The University of Huddersfield for a degree in Architectural Technology.

+ Becky Dodson will commence a project management programme, starting February 2021, for 4 years part time.

Through the Maze

In March, Managing Director spoke at the Wrigleys Solicitors, ‘Through the Maze’ event to discuss accommodation reports and accommodation claims. The event saw a panel of experts provide practical guidance from their wealth of knowledge, with solutions for seriously injured clients discussed during the sessions.

UK Lockdown

Towards the end of March, and with the news of a national lockdown circulating in the UK, the team at France + Associates pulled together to get a home finished for a client with a severe brain injury living in Scotland. The final stages of the build had to be closely managed to coordinate the completion of the build, to allow our client and his wife to move into the property before lockdown was enforced.

The project can be viewed here.

During lockdown, our team, along with the rest of the country learnt to adapt quickly to working from home and we were able to continue to deliver our architectural design and expert witness service.

We also put our architectural skills to good use and created a series of 12 paper building templates for children (and adults!) to colour, build and create their very own ‘LockTown’, we raised £150 which was donated to the Spinal Injuries Association.

Awards Season

We have been delighted to be acknowledged at a number of awards ceremonies in 2020 and have dusted off our finest clothes to attend ceremonies and awards virtually throughout lockdown.

The awards season started with a win for ‘Chartered Architectural Professionals & Accommodation Needs Experts of the Year’ at the Global Advisory Experts Awards.

We have also been highly commended at:

+ The LABC West Yorkshire Building Excellence Awards, in the category ‘Best Individual New Home’ for ‘Travis Towers, Honley’.

+ The CIAT Awards for the Excellence in Architectural Technology | Small to Medium for ‘JR v Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust’ [2017].

For the first time ever, we were also shortlisted at the Personal Injury Awards, in the category ‘Supporting the Industry’ and we were delighted to be recognised at such a prestigious event.

With lockdown enforced and Zoom the new way to communicate, we, like many others have embraced the flexibility of the virtual world, and in August Jonathan joined a panel of legal and rehabilitation experts at a webinar hosted by STEPS Rehabilitation. The webinar explored a wide range of topics and highlighted the importance of adopting a collaborative approach to getting client’s home. During his session, Jonathan discussed the impact that a well-adapted home can have for those living with disabilities, and showcased the latest in 3D technology and software, used as part of our design process, with a virtual tour of a client’s home.

We would like to thank our clients and team for supporting us, and take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
