Our search to find an accessible home for a child living with a brain injury.

Brief

Our client, AG, survived a serious brain injury at the age of 3 months old. At the time of writing was 6 years old and is severely sight impaired, meaning that contrast in colours and use of natural light is very important in a home as part of her play and therapy environment.

AG lives with her parents and her older sister who is 8 years old. Their current home is presently unsuitable due to lack of accommodation, with limited space for privacy, separation, therapy play and quiet areas.

Our client finds it difficult to distinguish between different tasks within the day such as play, learning and sleep and a designated space for each task will work best for them.

As such, the new home will accommodate space for play, therapy, education, assisted live-in care arrangements and of course suitable living space for the family to enjoy.

France + Associates were instructed to help with Property Finding, eventually sourcing a plot of land in Staffordshire, which met the client’s requirements. This was a challenging process as the team needed to collaborate with a planning consultant to achieve planning consent for a new dwelling within the green belt area. This has been approved, on the basis that the very special circumstances of the client and her needs, far outweighed the identified harm of building in Green Belt.

The team have been appointed to co-ordinate all necessary surveys and investigations, construction drawings, structural design and specifications to see quotations from building contractors and administer the building contract as contract administrators to manage the building project onsite.
