It is hard to believe that it has already been two years since Matthew Carter, Architectural Technologist, joined the F+A team.
Here Matthew reflects on his journey, the incredible people he has met, and the many ways in which he has grown both personally and professionally.
Q. It is two years since you joined the company, what are your most memorable moments during your time at F+A?
A. For me, my most memorable moments are the clients I have met and worked with since starting here. Hearing their stories and finding out what they have been through and go through on a day-to-day basis, is truly inspiring.
Q. How has your role evolved since you first joined the team and what new skills or experiences have you gained?
A. Prior to working for F+A, I was favouring working on jobs where I was making a notable difference to clients’ lives and well-being, such as designs for clients with additional needs. Whilst working at F+A I have enjoyed growing this passion and working closely with clients to help fulfil their requirements and needs whilst also designing something aesthetically pleasing, which has led to great job satisfaction.
Q. Can you share a specific project or accomplishment that you are particularly proud of and why?
A. We have recently started working with a client where they had an unpleasant experience throughout the initial feasibility process. They had completely lost faith in architects/technologists and were on the brink of selling the property they had purchased and giving up. After initial discussions and a site visit to meet them, face to face, it was an amazing feeling knowing that we had brought back the original excitement they had when they started the design process.
Q. How has the company culture and environment influenced your professional growth and job satisfaction?
A. I have learnt so much since starting at F&A. In the past I produced designs with only the technical aspect in mind. Now I must consider the end user, how much space they require and how they will use the property. I love knowing I am truly making a difference to someone’s life by providing them with a family home with long-term benefits including improved health and wellbeing.
Q. What advice would you give to new employees who are just starting their journey with the company?
A. If, like me, you have never worked in this field before, my advice would be to not worry, the team at F+A will always go out of their way to assist, and remember, if I can do it, so can you!
