Becky Kamhuka, our longest-serving team member, shares insights into her F+A journey
It is eight years since you joined the company, what are your most memorable moments during your time at F+A?
I am the longest serving employee after Jonathan, our Managing Director, and there have been so many memories! I have seen three office moves to accommodate the company’s expansion.
I have to say the most memorable moments have been our yearly F+A outings, the most recent being a two-day trip to London with virtual pigeon clay shooting, a river dinner cruise and a meal and drinks in the Sky Gardens.
How has your role evolved since you first joined the team and what new skills or experiences have you gained?
When I first joined F+A, I worked part-time on the company’s social media activity. I then progressed to carrying out a business development role and attended events and exhibitions. The most memorable being the OT show at the NEC in Birmingham when our stand was a timber framed house!
As the company grew, Jonathan needed more assistance on site, and I began accompanying him and taking meeting minutes and photos on site visits. This then developed into a role assisting with contract administration. I am now able to carry out site visits independently in between each progress meeting.
I took a big shining to the project management side of F+A projects and went on to study at Leeds College of Building for three and half years.I studiedConstruction and the Built Environment and have now gained my HNC 4 and continue my role in Project Management.
Can you share a specific project or accomplishment that you are particularly proud of and why?
This year after completing my HNC 4, I carried out my first solo project management for a project here in West Yorkshire. Previously I had always assisted my colleagues, as they were the main contract administrator. It felt daunting at first, but I soon realised that I had so much experience and quickly found my feet.
How has the company culture and environment influenced your professional growth and job satisfaction?
In this industry it is impossible not to have job satisfaction, to see how the clients' lives excel after having their home purpose built for their needs is just incredible. I never have a dry eye when completing a handover!
What advice would you give to new employees who are just starting their journey with the company?
France + Associates is an incredible place to work, offering a wide variety of opportunities to explore various aspects of the company. You might find yourself developing interests in areas you never expected! There’s always room to expand your knowledge and grow professionally.
