Join us as we delve into Karen's experiences, reflect on her journey, achievements, and the valuable lessons she has acquired over the last six years. 

What are some of the most memorable moments you've experienced during your time with the company? 

I always love going back to visit clients after they have moved into their new home and have settled in. I love seeing and hearing how much of a positive impact their new home, which I have designed and/or delivered, has had on them and their family.

On two specific projects that I dealt with, one for Aimee and the other for Lauren, both clients made big improvements in their health and wellbeing after living in the specially designed homes we created for them. 

How has your role evolved since you first joined the team, and what new skills or experiences have you gained? 

Since joining the company, I have developed report writing skills to enable me to prepare feasibility and suitability reports for clients. 

Can you share a specific project or accomplishment that you are particularly proud of and why? 

Getting awarded highly commended at the CIAT awards for a two storey family home, made fully accessible for a young man and his family was incredibly rewarding.

I am extremely proud to have worked on two LABC regional award winning projects, one getting “highly commended” at the national awards within the last year. The first was for a single storey, residential home for Peter and his family. The second being for Yusef, a young man with quadriplegic cerebral palsy. The project involved extending and adapting an existing property to create a fully accessible home for Yusef.

It always feels good to gain recognition through winning awards and from industry peers. 

How has the company culture and environment influenced your professional growth and job satisfaction? 

As a company, we have always been committed to building solid relationships with our clients, their families, support staff and solicitors to create the best accessible spaces for our clients’ forever homes and even with continuing growth of the team, this has remained the culture.

What advice would you give to new employees who are just starting their journey with the company? 

If you haven’t worked in the adaptation sector before, my advice to new colleagues is whilst it may seem a lot of new information and daunting at first, it doesn’t take long to settle in and pick up the information. It soon becomes second nature!
