AW was in her early 20's when she was catastrophically injured in a road traffic accident. Severely brain injured and wheelchair bound, our brief was to help with the purchase and adaptation of a new property to enable her to move out of the care home that she had been living in for several years.
We worked alongside the family, her legal team and expert witnesses to create a design that met her living requirements. The project included a unique challenge as the property had a protected species of newt which necessitated us engaging the services of an ecologist.
Brief
Our brief was to review the property being purchased and to agree a design with the family and expert witness in the case. It was unusual in that the house needed to be divided into 3 distinct sections:
What we did
+ Architectural plans
+ Secured planning permission to adapt the existing property
+ Constructed a new car port to the front of the property
+ Contract administration
Accessibility Features
+ Level access
+ Ceiling track/hoist system in the bedroom, en suite and therapy room
+ En suite with a specialist bath and height adjustable sink and macerator
+ Therapy room
+ Sensory garden
+ The property had a protected species of newt that required the involvement of an ecologist
+ Driveway to accommodate drive-in/drive-out access
+ Carers accommodation
